Covenant’s Approach to Preschool

Children who are immersed in a positive, reading-rich environment learn to read at an early age. Our assessments have revealed that even recently potty-trained children have aptitudes for beginning reading development. Because of these facts, our preschool is organized as an alternative to daycare. We operate twelve hours per day, five days per week, and we are open year-round.

Each day is packed with literacy-rich activities. The activities are organized to promote language development, learning to read, and writing skill development. Because these are young children, the daily schedule is organized into fifteen-minute segments, one flowing into the other. This fast-paced schedule alternates learning games, paper times, and free-play. Learning is fun! We use A Beka Book as our core curriculum which we have enhanced to fill a full-day schedule. We have also developed our own in-house curriculum and lesson plans for two and three year-old beginning students. This enhancement was necessary so that these students would receive the nurturing necessary (particularly in large motor skill development) for their age since they are not at home with mom or dad during the day. Each learning center incorporates a reading center, a writing center, and an imaginative play center. Because we teach that reading is fun, these children will frequently pick up books without prompting and read for fun.
